Waterbirds of the Pantanal

We passed this Jabiru nest out on an open plain on our first day's drive.  There were two nestlings

sticking their heads up from time to time, but they're not quite visible in this picture.

Immense numbers of Great and Snowy Egrets, Jabiru and Wood Storks, and other herons and egrets

were present everywhere we went.  They were feeding on the fish and mollusks concentrated in fast-

shrinking waterholes along the road.
